O’NEILL CWC SERIES 2011 – THURSO, SCOTLAND – DAY 5
THE BATTLE OF THURSO
April 17, 2011. By Jarrad Howse
Unlike most legendary Scottish campaigns, The Battle of Thurso was fought in the icy seas, where swords were substituted for surfboards and thick neoprene replaced the tartan kilt.
Although no blood was spilt in this 96 man, 5 day conflict there were some brave individual performances. Barrels were ridden, fins were ditched and rails were buried until there was one man standing alone on the shoreline after defeating his final challenger.
This event will go down in the history books as the best event ever on the WQS, and the surfer who fought the hardest, dominated the perfect conditions and became a Lord was Brent Dorrington.
Ironically Lord Dorrington eventually threw down his board and lifted a sword to become the 2011 O’Neill CWC Scotland champ!
