SB Jam: MATHIEU CREPEL
Crepel, who required top pre-qualification results for access to Saturday night's big finale' showed top pre-Olympic form. He dominated and won the Qualifications on Thursday. He won the Best Trick Kicker session on Friday and won the first round of the Saturday night finals [Slopestyle] hands down scoring 8.9points. As winner results reflected accumulated points in both Slopestyle and Superpipe top scores in both heats were required. Crepel delivered, stamping his claim to first place with a blistering 9.55 run in the Superpipe, making seemingly impossible for any one to topple his flawless performances. However not until the last runs were completed was his result secure. Andy Finch(USA), Frederik Austbo(NOR) and Nicolas Mueller(SUI) all scoring highly. Risto Mattila(FIN) in his last run of the competition managed to outscore Crepel on the Superpipe with the judges awarding him a 9.6. Mattila's run was the nights top Superpipe score, yet his combined results from Slopestyle and Superpipe would not be enough to keep Crepel from taking the crown. Only 0.25 points separated the two riders with Crepel taking honors and enough points to advance up to 5th on the TTR World Tour rankings.
"I'm really happy, so stoked to win, it's a wonderful start to my New Year," stated 21yr-old Crepel who will be one of two French riders competing at the Olympic Games in Turin, Italy later on in the season.
