With less than one week to go before the world’s best freestyle and race kitesurfers arrive in Scheveningen for the O’Neill Kiteboard World Cup 2012, event preparations are now in their final stages.
With the O’Neill / Nuon Kitesurf World Cup in 2000 and 2001 still a fond memory, O’Neill has been working together with the PKRA World Tour to organize another world-class kiteboarding event in The Netherlands that supports the rapid evolution of the sport. The International Olympic Committee’s recent announcement welcoming kiteboarding into the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro has also added to the feeling of excitement surrounding the event.

In addition to the jaw-dropping spectacle put on by the world’s best kiteboarders on the beach at Scheveningen, there’s also a ton of other stuff scheduled to go down during the O’Neill Kiteboard World Cup. A tented village and a number of sideline activities including skate ramp demos and heavily discounted kite, SUP and surfing lessons will keep crowds entertained at all times. Lessons, available every day of the contest from 10:00-12:00, can be booked via www.kitesurfschool.nl. O’Neill and other leading kite brands will also show off the latest kiting equipment, including many test items, in the tented ‘Fire Village’.
On the evening of May 17, the nearby Pathé Scheveningen will host the world premieres of “Hidden Lines” – a new action-packed kite movie starring Kevin Langeree, Youri Zoon and Nick Jacobsen. Buy your tickets to the world premieres here.
On May 18, our attention switches to the PKRA Party as popular rock band ‘Go Back To The Zoo’ rolls into town to play what promises to be a spectacular live concert. With support from ‘Hunting the Robot’ and a banging After Party also on the schedule, you won’t want to miss your chance to buy tickets here.
The very next day on May 19, the party continues apace on the beach with live music from ‘Splendid’ – a critically-acclaimed band from The Hague that blends pop, reggae, soul and rock into one feel-good sound. An After Party hosted by DJ Monkey Miracular promises to cap another great night. Tickets can be purchased here.
From May 16 – May 20, celebrate O’Neill’s 60th anniversary with us by visiting the O’Neill 60 Years of Innovation Global Art Exhibition. Curated by Monster Children, the show offers a unique insight into the history of O’Neill and includes works by Thomas Campbell, Geoff McFetridge, Liam Gerrard, Jim Phillips Jr, Tim Chapman and Mark Penxa. You can also follow the tour as it travels the world on www.60yearsofinnovation.tumblr.com
Finally, from 7 May – 4 June, KWF’s youth-focussed Fight Cancer brand is hosting an online auction called ‘Days of Love Its’. With once-in-a-lifetime prizes up for grabs, the auction supports the fight against cancer. As part of the auction and in collaboration with O’Neill and kitesurfschool.nl, KWF ambassadors Kevin and Jalou Langeree are offering a money-can’t-buy kite clinic for 2 people. In addition, O’Neill will also donate 10% of all online store sales of UV protective lycra items in the month of May.
