Spectacular show goes on despite lack of swell
Friday August 14th, 2009 - Thousands ofspectators turned up to the beach in Anglet to witness the night surfingspectacle – the O'Neill Surf de Nuit presented by Orangina. In spite of very small swell conditions,professional surfers from all over the world, including surf legend Cory Lopez,the Australian and former WCT surfer JarradHowse, British surf star, SamLamiroy and the rising stars of the French surfing scene Hugo Savalli, CharlyMartin and Christophe Allary, made the show.
The biggestchallenge of the evening? To make the show go on when the swell refused to turnup on the night. Taking inspiration from the wakeboard culture, O'Neill broughtout winches fixed on the beach for the first time in surf contest history. This enabled the surfers to take enough speed tomake airs or radical and spectacular turns in the night of Anglet.
As the surfers all flew through the air it was ReunionIsland surfer Hugo Savalli who took victory. He was followed by the BelgianNielsMusschoot and the upcoming star surfer from Guadeloupe, Charly Martin.
With live music from Naosol&Thewaxx blend, RobSawyer, The O'Neill surf de Nuit provided a huge show until midnight for the10,000 spectators gathered on the beach of the Surf Club in Anglet.
In spite of the challenges,the audience and all the professional surfers involved in the night surfingevent for the first time, all had a night to remember in the unique atmosphereof the O'Neill Surf de Nuit.

SPECTACLE ASSURE MALGRE LE MANQUE DE VAGUES
Vendredi 14 août, des milliers de spectateurs étaientprésents sur la plage du Club à Anglet pour cette édition 2009 du O'Neill Surfde Nuit, présenté par Orangina.
Malgré des conditions de vagues quasi inexistantes, lessurfeurs professionnels venus des quatre coins de la planète, tels la légendedu surf Cory Lopez, l'Autralien et ancien cadre du WCT Jarrad Howse, leBritannique Sam Lamiroy et les starsmontantes du surf Français Hugo Savalli, Charly Martin et Christophe Allary ontassuré le show. Ils étaient également accompagnés de l'Australien Jayke Sharp,du surfeur Angloye Romain Laulhé et des surfeuses Amandine Sanchez, CarolineSarran et Laetitia Sudre.
Comment assurer le spectacle quand les vagues ne sontpas au rendez-vous? O'Neill s'est inspiré du monde du wake board, en utilisant pourla première fois dans l'histoire des contests de surf, des treuils surpuissantsfixés sur la plage, permettant aux surfeurs de s'élancer et de prendre assez devitesse pour s'envoler ou réaliser des courbes radicales et spectaculaires dansla nuit Angloye. Au terme d'une heure et demi de contest, c'est finalement leRéunionnais Hugo Savalli qui s'est imposé devant le Belge Niels Musschoot et leMartiniquais Charly Martin.

Rythmédès 20h par les concerts endiablés de Naosol & The Waxx Blend et de RobSawyer et suivis par le set de DJ Maf, le O'Neill Surf de Nuit a tenu sespromesses en animant la plage du Club à Anglet jusqu'à minuit passé, auprès desmilliers de spectateurs présents.
Malgré la difficulté de l'exercice, le public ainsique tous les surfeurs professionnels présents, pour lesquels cette expérienceétait une première, ont passé un moment inoubliable et très fun, assurant au O'NeillSurf de Nuit une ambiance résolument unique.
