Nicolas Falquet
Nicolas Falquet has become one of freeskiing's most prolific and creative forces, teaming up with his younger brother Loris over the course of the last 10 years to produce, direct and star in a number of the sport's most memorable freeskiing films, including Une Nuit d'Hiver and Legends. Above all, Nicolas is a man with a vision as well as the knowledge that only he and his brother can do justice to that vision. In a world full or sayers, Nicolas is most definitely a doer - no doubt about it. In a similar way to his little brother, the Swiss freeskier's talent in front of the cameras is matched by his skill behind the lens, making them the most uniquely gifted double act on the mountain. Determined to take skiing to a more mainstream audience, the aptly-named Huck is currently at the helm of a new film project called Nomads. Filmed over 6 months in 2010, Nomads will see the Falquet brothers and the rest of the film crew road tripping across Europe in an effort to score the best snow conditions the Old Continent has to offer.
Q: What has been the biggest highlight of the past 12 months for you?
A: I'm skiing in, producing, directing, co-filming and co-editing Nomads - our new film. That's a big highlight.
Q: What's the best thing about riding for a living?
A: I'm free! I have a lot of time at my disposal to be as proactive and professional as possible. I'm always thinking about new projects to develop.
Q: Who do you enjoy riding with the most, and why?
A: I love riding with my brother, Jeremie Heitz and the rest of the film crew. That sense of enjoyment may have something to do with the fact those guys are also my best friends!
Q: Other than home, where is your favorite place to ride, and why?
A: I would say Alaska. That's an experience you just have to live through!
Q: What are your main goals and plans for the next 12 months?
A: The Nomads project will take me some time to complete, that's for sure.
Q: How do you see your sport evolving in the next few years?
A: I'd like to see more people skiing. I don't want skiing to fall in line with today's snowboarding scene. That's one of the reasons Loris and I came up with the Nomads project. We're trying to speak to the largest possible audience. Skiing is not core!
Q: Have you got any plans to film a new video part, and if yes, with which film company?
A: Yes, we're producing a new film called Nomads. It's a 6-month road trip across the European continent, and we're just going to follow the best snow conditions and document it all. Check out: www.freecaster.com/nomads
Q: What do you do for fun when you are not riding?
A: I'm working on a lot of different film projects as both a producer and director. It's real work but also fun!
Q: What achievement are you most proud of so far in your career?
A: I'd never really say I'm proud of myself. That said, I'm very satisfied with my achievements over the last 10 years.
Q: If you didn't ride for a living, what would you have liked to be doing now for an occupation?
A: I'd probably be involved in even more films projects!
Q: What trick do you enjoy the most?
A: That's one of my least favorite questions to answer! It's like asking someone what their favorite color or food is!
