Eirik Haugo
Eirik Haugo has occupied a position at the heart of O'Neill's European snowboard team for several years already, and is undoubtedly one of the team's most exposed riders in the core snowboard press. From extensive magazine appearances right through to banger video parts, this regular-footed rider charges everything in his path. While the Norwegian rider competes in the occasional contest, he makes no secret of the fact that his happiest days on the mountain have seen him throwing down big in the backcountry with the rest of the Pirates - one of Europe's most progressive film crews. Over the last five years, the two have built a super productive relationship, with Haugo even bagging the DVD cover shot for one of the Pirates' earlier movies. Off the snow, Haugo is a super talented skater and is always up for a spot of headbanging at Scandinavia's finer heavy metal festivals. Don't let you heavy metal prejudices get in the way - if you happen to bump into Haugo somewhere, rest assured that this unique rider is hands-down one of the friendliest and most approachable pro riders in the industry.
Q: What has been the biggest highlight of the past 12 months for you?
A: The powder we scored in Italy last season.
Q: What's the best thing about riding for a living?
A: I get to travel the world searching for the best powder.
Q: Who do you enjoy riding with the most, and why?
A: I enjoy the company of whoever is out there having a good time.
Q: Other than home, where is your favorite place to ride, and why?
A: The Alps, for sure. Those mountains have the sickest lift-accessible terrain. There's no hassle with sleds or anything. You just take the lift, strap in and go for it.
Q: What are your main goals and plans for the next 12 months?
A: I want to stay healthy. I hope I'm done with injuries now…
Q: How do you see your sport evolving in the next few years?
A: It's hard to say. There are so many different styles of riding and different approaches to the sport, but diversity is the key. Dudes should stop copying other dudes and just be themselves.
Q: Have you got any plans to film a new video part, and if yes, with which film company?
A: No plans yet.
Q: What do you do for fun when you are not riding?
A: Surfing, skating and making out with my girl.
Q: What achievement are you most proud of so far in your career?
A: That's also pretty hard to say. I had quite a few good contest results back in the day, and also bagged some good video parts these last few years.
Q: If you didn't ride for a living, what would you have liked to be doing now for an occupation?
A: Dunno, maybe something that involves traveling.
Q: What trick do you enjoy the most?
A: Backflip, with fs 3 as a good second option.
