Julien Haricot
Julien "L'Arrogs" Haricot is one of the most talented and charismatic personalities on the European snowboarding scene. Armed with a flawless riding style, huge bag of tricks and trademark sense of humor, the Frenchman maintains a position at the very heart of O'Neill's European snowboard team. After growing up and honing his skills in the French ski resorts of L'Alpes d'Huez and Les Arcs, it wasn't long before L'Arrogs and his infamous crew of Psykopit friends started making a name for themselves via a number of inspired snowboard video productions. During the course of the last few years, the goofy-footed rider has become one of the most exposed French riders in the European media, delighting readers, viewers and onlookers alike with his creative skills on the mountain and his high jinx adventures off the snow. Most recently, Julien has been flying all over the place to film video parts with production company Eroone.
Q: What has been the biggest highlight of the past 12 months for you?
A: I'm pretty stoked about my video part in the new Eroone Films video: "Stick Em Up". O'Neill backed my video part all the way, and I was super happy about that level of support. Check out www.eroone.eu for more details!
Q: What's the best thing about riding for a living?
A: Riding for a living is awesome because your job is also your passion! It's a big privilege, and I'm really lucky and stoked about it. And I totally don't take it for granted. I enjoy it and try to make the most of it every single day.
Q: Who do you enjoy riding with the most, and why?
A: Of course with my hometown friends cause I'm still riding with them since the beginning, and we all the time have a lot crazy funny stories! The Eroone crew are super fun to ride with - I went on so many good trips with those guys last winter, including places like Salt Lake City, Andorra, Switzerland, Lake Tahoe, and Breckenridge. Each and every one of those trips was epic! The whole crew has pushed me a lot towards getting good tricks for my video part. Thanks to all my bros.
Q: Other than home, where is your favorite place to ride, and why?
A: That's a hard question, but it's probably somewhere in the US and Canada. I know that not a particularly original answer, but I'm a park rider and the best snowparks in the world are definitely out there!
Q: What are your main goals and plans for the next 12 months?
A: I really want to bag a good new part in the next Eroone video project. And I'd like to travel as much as possible and continue learning new tricks.
Q: How do you see your sport evolving in the next few years?
A: Wow... that's pretty hard to say. I think we saw a big evolutionary leap this season with snowboarding! I just hope there will be more to snowboarding in the future than the double cork. While it's definitely pushed the progression of the sport, it'll be super boring if all we see is that trick! I honestly don't know where snowboarding is headed next. I just hope we'll be able to keep nurturing the underground aspect of snowboarding!
Q: Have you got any plans to film a new video part, and if yes, with which film company?
A: I'll be filming with Eroone Films for their next project! Check the video coming out next season with Onboard Mag.
Q: What do you do for fun when you are not riding?
A: Haha… still partying…a lot! I also love to travel with my girlfriend!
Q: What achievement are you most proud of so far in your career?
A: I'm still snowboarding for a living after 15 years of sponsored riding. My office is the biggest and most wonderful office in the world. I love my job!
Q: If you didn't ride for a living, what would you have liked to be doing now for an occupation?
A: I'd still be riding for fun, no doubt about it! I'm also the Bataleon Snowboards International team manager, so that keeps me busy when I'm not riding. I'd also start up something else - something that keeps me motivated! Watch this space! I wouldn't mind becoming a florist!
Q: What trick do you enjoy the most?
A: It could be a simple ollie, it could be a backside air, it could be a switch BS 5 indy - or any other trick for that matter! It totally depends on the day in question and my mood at that particular time.
