Cyril Cornaro

Cyril Cornaro

Biography:

Switzerland's Cyril Cornaro is one of Europe's original wakeboard and wakeskate pioneers, and was at the heart of the action when the sport exploded in popularity back in the day. Originally from the picturesque town of Montreux, this charismatic Swiss rider quickly realized he would need to look to warmer climates if he was to progress all year round. A number of seasons on the World Tour yielded impressive results, as well as 4 European titles and plenty of top 10 finishes. Motivated by his hunger for constant progression, Cornaro is now busy passing on his knowledge and expertise to the younger generations via his successful wakeboard school in Sevilla, Spain. Outside of competing and running his own school, Cornaro is all about bagging mind-blowing video footage and those all-important cover shots.

- Where are you at the moment, and what are you doing?
"I am in Sevilla Spain. My new home since last year. I opened a Wakeboard School down there. So I got a lot of work between pulling people wakeboarding, training myself and travelling to all the Wake events during the summer time."

- Can you explain your individual discipline?
"A boat, a driver, a riding partner, lots of weight in the boat to get the biggest wake you can, super flat water conditions, and the most important part the hudge motivation. Then you just go aout an ride. Use the wake to do any kind of tricks. Like snowboarding on the water...."

- Who or what inspired you to start on the water?
"The conditions. When you see the flat water or the loaded boat. That inspires me a lot. Get a good crew of friends on the boat. Start talking about the new tricks or the variety of grabs on old tricks we can do. That the best way to be inspired."

- How would you describe your personal style?
"Going big and doing the tricks my way. Snooth and make it look like easy."

- What is your training regime like?
"Wake up with a good breakfast. Play with my kid a little. Get the boat ready. Ride once in morning. Small Grab and spin session. Then take care of the School. Go heat a big plat of Pasta. After Siesta time. National Sport here in the south of Spain. More work. (Pull clients out )
Then go back out with a more intense seesion. That's about it for me. I try to do that minimum 5 days a week."

- Any special diet?
"Healthy food that it."

- What motivates you, in life and/or in sport?
"Progressing. Always go forward and try to learn form the past experience."

- Did you ever think that this is something you'd be making a living at? What did you plan to do as a kid?
"I never really had anything planned when I was a kid. I just knew that I didn't wanted to do something I didn't like. Making a living with wakeboarding is really hard. I got the chance to be at the right periode of wakeboarding in Europe. The begining of it.I was the joung kid getting good fast. This helped me for my carrer."

- What's the biggest perk of being a pro?
"What' perk ?"
-
 Conversely, what's the worst part?
"There is none."

- Where's your favourite wake spot and why?
"Sevilla. Because I leave there and I got set it up the way I want. Got the all river for me during the week. It's always flat and hot. Everything I need for Wakeboarding."

- What has been your biggest personal and professional achievement so far?
"Still been at the top after 12 year in the scene. And a couple of contests and title that I won.
Like 4 times European champ., 6th at the worlds and world cups. Also a couple of cover in some really important Mags in the Sports."

- How do you prepare before an event, mentally and physically?
"Mentally I ust try to relax as uch as I can. The hardest time is when you are on the dock and the boat is coming for you. Deep breath... Physically I just ride a lot a week before doing all the tricks that I will putt in my run in the contest and 2 days before I don't touch the board."

- What are your passions outside of wakeboarding?
"My family, Snowboarding, Surfing, sk8iboarding, RC plan and eating good food
What are your future plans, where do you see yourself 10 years from now?
