Nils Kroon

Nils Kroon

Biography:

Nils Kroon is one of Europe's strongest up-and-coming wakeboarders. The Dutchman grew up in Loosdrecht alongside younger brother Marc, and was fortunate enough to spend his early years living close to a lake that was popular among wakeboarders. Never one to just watch from the sidelines, Nils tried his hand at wakeboarding for the first time at the age of 12 and soon discovered he was pretty damn good at it! It wasn't long before Nils was competing in local events, and was rewarded with his first national title at the Dutch Nationals in 2005. Armed with his unquenchable thirst for progression, Kroon has gone from strength to strength on both the national and international wakeboarding scenes. More recently, the Dutchman has notched up some impressive victories on the Lowlands Wakeboard Tour as well as in the Dutch Nationals. Looking ahead, Nils is keen to cement his presence on the international scene with some podium-deserving performances at the upcoming European Championships. Don't take your eyes off this guy - he's really going places!

Q: What has been the biggest highlight of the past 12 months for you?
A: Obtaining my driver's license!

Q: What's the best thing about riding for a living?
A: The thing I enjoy most in life is riding. Being able to do the thing you love most in life for a living is just amazing.

Q: Who do you enjoy riding with the most, and why?
A: My younger brother Marc Kroon and Duncan Zuur. I always seem to  have a lot of fun when I go riding with those two guys, and not only out on the water.

Q: Other than home, where is your favorite place to ride, and why?
A: I think it has to be Sevilla in Spain. That's where my O'Neill teammate  Cyrill Cornaro lives. He's always fun to hang out with and the spot where he rides is perfect.

Q: What are your main goals and plans for the next 12 months?
A: One of my big goals for the next year is to do well in the European Championships in 2010. I'm also leaving for Florida at the beginning of March to start the season.

Q: How do you see your sport evolving in the next few years?
A: The younger kids are taking the sport to a higher level. No matter where you look, you can see that obstacles like sliders and kickers are becoming more important as well.

Q: Have you got any plans to film a new video part, and if yes, with which film company?
A: No plans to film at the moment.

Q: What do you do for fun when you are not riding?
A: I enjoy watching other sports when I'm not out riding, and I like to try them out as well.

Q: What achievement are you most proud of so far in your career?
A: Just the fact that I'm able to travel all over the world to wakeboard. I'm proud of that for sure.

Q: If you didn't ride for a living, what would you have liked to be doing now for an occupation?
A: I'd probably try and play or do some other sport for a living.

Q: What trick do you enjoy the most?
A: Whirlybird
