SANTA CRUZ, Calif., Oct. 28, 2013 – Official forecaster Surfline has predicted the possibility of a Northwest Pacific storm developing this week and into the beginning of the 2013 O'Neill Coldwater Classic Invitational contest window, Nov. 6-10, at Steamer Lane, Santa Cruz, Calif. The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Specialty Event will see 16 unsponsored surfers battle for a $50,000 grand prize winner takes all yearlong sponsorship package.
"Long-range forecast charts suggest that we may see a Northwest Pacific storm development around Halloween and the first couple days of November, which may potentially deliver a fun size WNW groundswell (295-310 deg) for around the first couple days of the event, topping out over Nov 6th-7th," says Surfline Lead Pacific Forecaster Jonathan Warren. "Unfortunately, it looks like this swell will then ease out through the remainder of the event (8th-10th), with nothing much due to replace it. Keep in mind that this is still far out and things can certainly change over the next several days."
Contest organizers will be working with Surfline over the next week to determine when the contest will run. Two days will be needed within the contest holding period to crown the 2013 O'Neill Coldwater Classic Invitational champion.
