Alana Mock

Biography:

I started surfing when I was around 2 or 3. This is where my mom takes over:
"Alana didn't swim on her own yet, but her Dad thought it would be fun to push her into the little waves at Rocky Point on my 6'5" Barnfield. I stood on the inside, expecting her to fall on her first try, but to our surprise, she stood up and rode right past me and calmly stepped off the board when it hit the beach." I've been competing since age 5.

Lived on the North Shore my whole life. Homeschooled my whole life, too. Live with my parents and two brothers. Moved once from Gas Chambers to Waimea, where I currently reside. We live on the ocean at Waimea Bay Point with my mom's side of the family along our driveway.

Personality
I'm somewhat of a perfectionist, in moderation, of course. My pet peeves are: when the refrigerator door is kept open too long and when guys don't put the seat down; when people blend in and lose their uniqueness. I'd rather do something myself than ask someone else. It's just easier for me to do it so I don't have to wonder if they're doing it right, or if it'll turn out how I want it.

Art
I love to paint and draw at night or at the end of a long day. Most people have journals to look back and remember times in their lives. Instead of words, my books are full of my drawings. I have one book I take everywhere. When people look through it, it's like they're getting to know me and I don't even have to say anything. If my house was burning down, my art books and paintings are things that I would definitely save. I've always loved art. I have a picture I had finger painted at a friend's birthday party when I was 5. It's got two blue suns and one blue cloud, two red sponged hearts and my right hand print in red with green finger tips. It's an inspirational piece because red and green are my favorite colors, and because it reminds me how long I've loved to paint and draw.
